LOVE. A huge concept. It is all encompassing, it is eternal, it is life changing and a wedding is used as a representative of love. It is an event by its very nature designed to change your life, to morph you into your next stage. I wanted to be involved, enveloped and totally surrounded by this magical event.
After 20 years of being involved in this industry I have come to several realisations. This is one of the most wasteful industries there is. It is indulgent, extravagant and unnecessary. The very things that often make it so appealing, it is also (like almost every other business on the planet) out to do one thing....make money. The average cost of a wedding in 2019 is now nearly £32,000! This is made up of various elements including venue hire, honeymoon, food, jewellery, drink, clothing and entertainment. I am not debating how much should be spent on a wedding, I am questioning the impact that all these decisions have. Bar drinks being served in plastic cups, out of season flowers and food that has to be flown in, I could go on, but you get the idea!
I am well aware as a stylist that one style most definitely does not fit all, but awareness and informed choices doesn't have to mean a hippy wedding with any loss of style or impact...in fact it can be quite the opposite, with some help it can be simply quite beautiful.
Over the next few weeks I will be uploading lots of blogs on how to incorporate a little Eco. awareness into your events whether you're entertaining 150 at the biggest day of your life, or simply trying to impress friends at a dinner party! Stay tuned and lets get green eventing! jx
